I wanted to pass along that there was a cert issued today for Charlottsville, VA. At least for me, that is the only city on the cert. I had declined the cities on the first two certs, so there could be more in this batch. I'm a bit surprised as I assumed Charlottsville would generally be filled with transfers.

I'm wondering if this is the only new city, or have a few other cities' certs been pulled as well. Good luck and great news! That was one of my original cites on my application and for some (idiotic) reason, I took it off the list at the last minute. Seriously kicking myself now...

I think someone else in another thread posted there was a cert for Oak Park, MI too. So, there are a few new cities on the cert. This is for people interviewing in January too, who weren't on previous cert. I believe that there will be a class of 24 or 25 hired pre-interview and another class with a new set of GALs (probably coming out soon) for a second class of 24 or 25. Both of these classes will start in March 2015.

It's likely that several, perhaps most, people on the Charlottesville cert have already been interviewed.

And don't forget at least one of us (and perhaps as many as a handful) were on the certs with a "Be ready to start in January" email who are being interviewed next week. With my small GAL I don't expect to receive any new cities. :-)

So, from what I am hearing everyone say, we've got folks who either interviewed in November/December 2014, with a list of cities they presumably knew they were interviewing for, plus folks who are interviewing in January 2015, who either got a similar list of cities in November 2014 that are interviewing for one/many of those cities. These folks are being hired as we speak for January and March 2015 start dates. Sounds like the first round of hires from this register during the summer.
But, we also have additional folks that are being contacted to be interviewed in January 2015 for NEW cities (not mentioned in the November sets of emailed cities) that will be considered for positions this spring as well. This is way cool and exciting times for folks who thought they were trifectas, but are being given a chance to get hired sooner.
Not trying to be dense here, but it seems to me that if you have already interviewed in November/December, and you are hearing about other cites popping up that you actually had on your GAL but haven't been notified by Bob that you are being considered for those cities - you may in fact be in the running for those cites and not even know it? Don't we know of some people heading up for an interview without really knowing which cites they are being considered for (not that it really mattered to them). So there are some remote possibilities for you second certers - you may get a call from Bob, but it may be for a different city than what was ranked on your email. Maybe you get a new email with new cites? Is there even going to be a Third cert? A large list of say 30 cities with 150 folks being notified of paperwork submissions, city rankings and interview scheduling? It doesn't sound like that is going to happen for the foreseeable future. Is this smaller, a few cities at a time, going to be the 'new' normal? I do not know. I do see a combination of factors at play: SSA has figured out how to game the OPM system of one cert per city crap; ODAR needs to hire as many ALJs before the money runs out this fiscal year; and ODARs are being asked to turn every available space into an office thereby creating hires in some unlikely ODARs.
So, this is supposedly the last week (for now) of calls from Bob and his staff of March hires. Then it is interviews, decisions and the next set of calls in February. Again, I wish all of you the best of luck, whether you have already got the job, already interviewed and are waiting for the call this week, are going up for your interview next week, or even better, are packing your things to head to your new ALJ gig. In all, this is looking like it going to be a very fluid nine months - or until ODAR reaches its hiring goal.

mpd - I just wanted to make sure I captured all the permutations. I mean, once you get your interview, you're done and just waiting to (hopefully) get a job offer from Bob. But I thought that there was some notification of which ODARs they were considering you for prior to interviews or job offers in the past. Hey - if I Never got an email notification but got a phone call from Bob that asked if I could be up there tomorrow for an interview - I wouldn't hesitate! I am just sayin' the process is like watching the guy with the spinning plates on the Tonight Show (Johnny Carson or Jack Paar years) - Bob is doing a great job keeping all these plates spinning, but it's a little wild with new and unexpected cities popping up!!

I agree, if Bob told someone we are half way done for the March starting group at 11 or so (we now have 13 plus one rejection), that makes about 25 for March 23rd. But are you saying there will be another 25 once these interviews next week are done? It sounds logical, just wondering the source. I may have missed it in the posts.

Sratty a very educated guess and some decent intel. Otherwise, SSA would be stuck hiring much larger classes in the future. If they hire 50 plus every two month they will hit their 250 goals of ALJ this calendar year. My intel and educated guess could be wrong, but I think not.

I have a small GAL (only 7-8 cities) with a high NOR. I made the first and second certs. Charlottesville is on my GAL but I didn't receive an email. Do you all think this is a good indicator that I've been 3 struck?

Do you all think this is a good indicator that I've been 3 struck? No. I don't think anyone that was part of the first two certs and has previously interviewed has received an updated list with the new cities. Just give it some time. I think they're just checking the interest of those that have never been to FC to see if additional interviews are necessary.
