You know Tiger, Green Acres...all the main characters... dead. For the young'uns out there: Green Acres was a rural sitcom set near Hooterville and next door to Fred and Doris Ziffel, who "adopted" a pig named Arnold as their "son". Arnold understands English, lived indoors, an avid TV watcher and a Western fan, who attends the local grade school carrying his book pack in his mouth. To compare to modern TV: just think Kardashians only with a dose of reality. Actually PJ, Funky and I bear some similarities to the main character in that sitcom - Oliver Wendell Douglas played by Eddie Albert. High powered attorneys who crave a simpler life, buy a farm and spend our spare time riding around on tractors. My farm is 20+ acres with an antique car barn. [Apropos given my age] Funky's farm is 20+ acres with a gokart track. [He's got younger kids] Try putting that kind of acreage anywhere inside "The Loop" along Lake Michigan, or in the 5 Boroughs of NYC. ht

I was thinking Pat Buttram. He played Mr. Haney.

Newbie to this board: have they opened up the initial hiring application process in 2015? How many days is it typically open for? Just recently have had some encouragement from ALJ's before whom I appear that I should apply.

Newbie to this board: have they opened up the initial hiring application process in 2015? How many days is it typically open for? Just recently have had some encouragement from ALJ's before whom I appear that I should apply. Welcome to the board! No the process is in the midst of a new register that began by applying in March 2013. The hiring from this new register did not get started until August 2014 and is just getting started in full swing. The speculation is that new applications may begin again in 2016 or soon thereafter at the earliest. This thread is for people who applied in March 2013 but who were cut at the 2nd stage online testing component. They are opening up that by lowering the threshold score level and allowing a number of folks to proceed on to the testing at OPM.
I would recommend setting a USAJobs.com alert to tell you when the process is open again as it will be announced there. This last time it was open much longer than in the past, allowing thousands (estimates are 4-5000) applicants to apply.
Good luck!

Yes, sratty is right. You might also want to watch this Board because if it opens agaain as a brand new Register or as a Refresh, it will allow new candidates to apply and you will see mention of it here in posts. Good luck and welcome to the Board chaneybipolarssdatty.

Outsider has returned! Having spent the last two weeks making plans for turning over my files, contacting my clients and notifying the Courts of my new position, I finally am ready to present my new personna. I discussed the many possibilities regarding my new identity and name for this board. Finally, I decided to go with the recommendation of my four year old grand daughter. She assured me that Gram Pop is the only proper name I should ever use. She is wise beyond her years and I think it would be best if I followed her advice. I have already been in touch with my new office (Thanks, Hamster) and I am looking forward to starting work at the end of June. It is difficult leaving a firm after 13 years, especially one filled with good people doing good work. But the challenge of whittling down the backlog is one I am eager to face. P.S. MontyB, I vaguely remember being 40, but that was years ago. I have no doubt that the intervening years have made me a better lawyer and have given me the skills needed to do this very demanding job. That is not to say that I couldn't have done the work when I was younger, but the experience and maturity that comes with age is a valuable resource that should not be overlooked. Gram Pop, Pop here. Good to have another grandfather on here! My grandkids are 2, 1 (and 5/6!) - and my granddaughter just learned to SPELL her first word - "P-O-P." :-) Congratulations on your new job and I hope I can join you in the ranks sometime relatively soon!

Other than the one post we have seen, have any other hopefuls received the survey email? I'm just wondering who has received one and, if so, what "pool" of applicants they fit in. I was in the category of folks who took the SJT but didn't advance beyond that round, so I'm trying to remain hopeful that I will somehow end up in this new group selected to advance to the WD/SI part.

I think OPM'll first administer the online SJT, WS, and EA to the group now being allowed to take them. Once OPM's added those scores to the hopper, they will determine the new cutoff score and send out invites to the Big Dance in DC. I don't think you'll find out whether you need to pack for DC until those invites are emailed. I don't think it will take them that long for these parts of the process (says the man whose predictions have always been wrong) but it may feel like an eternity. Good luck!

If you feel you did ok on the online part.... I wouldn't prepay for an August or September vacation.

Since I'm the one who got the survey e-mail - after having passed the first round but not receiving a notification e-mail and discovering that too late - I too of course am curious as to who else received it. Surely I'm not the only one. My current anxiety is, since I didn't get any kind of confirmation back, that somehow I did something wrong in responding to the survey. All it was was one question, are you still interested or no, and a place to update your e-mail address if necessary. So how could I screw that up, he asks, incredulously? Stranger things have happened. I hate to be a pessimist but many of us seem to be familiar with the foibles of this system, as well. After I submitted the survey (which can't be retrieved for review) I did send an e-mail to the same address from which I received the survey to confirm my interest and asking for confirmation back, but not surprisingly I've heard nothing. Since the deadline to respond to the survey was June 2, I guess I will wait until shortly after that date and if I haven't received anything, I'll contact OPM. Does anyone out there have a good source/good e-mail address/good phone number that might be particularly good for that purpose?
If I'm reading some of these posts correctly, I'm hoping I'll do well enough in Round 2 to be invited to D.C., which may be as early as August or September? That would be amazing. This has been such a L - O - N - G journey for me and I know for so many of us. Now, I need to get back to the job I DO have (but don't particularly want to spend much more time in :-) ....have a nice day, everyone.

I think you're OK so far. When we applied in 2013, I applied 3/7; the open period closed 3/15; and I received an email on 4/11 inviting me to take the SJT, WS, and EA. So, I think you are not likely to hear back until after 6/2. Since you've already cleared the preliminary qualifications, it might be quite soon after 6/2, depending on how long it takes OPM to decide on the new cutoff score for going to DC for testing. So maybe in a couple of agonizing weeks they'll let you know.

Gary correct me if I am wrong, but I thought there was more than several weeks between when we took the second part of the test and when we received correspondence about moving on to the D.C. phase. However, since there are likely less scores this time to deal with and less people, it might be OPM is a lot quicker in getting out information about the D.C. phase. Either way good luck to all of those in the process.

I think the timing of the online phase and decision as to adjusting the cutoffs and scheduling the Washington phase will depend on how many people are taking it. If it's only the type of unusual situation that hope2 experienced (or similar situations) there are probably relatively few and it could be quick. If, on the other hand, OPM has completed (or is about to complete) its review of the first step appeals and/or "do overs" for people who appealed the second phase, that could result in a lot more applicants needing to do the second phase, which in turn will delay the evaluations. This is all very speculative.

They aren't going to tell you anything until after 6/2. They will wait until after the deadline to let you know. I'm with the others if you think you might invited to DC keep the late summer early fall open. I would also recommend going and looking at all the threads about DC travel for testing because there were tons of tricks and help about travel.

I took the "online component" last year and received a letter indicating my score was not high enough to continue and I did not file an appeal. In this situation, does anyone know if I will have to reapply if the test period reopens, or is it possible I could be contacted to see if I would like to continue, if my score from last year is now above the new minimum required? Many Thanks!

hi, look at page 1 of this thread. based on what i think is Tiger's second post on this topic and the email he copied, you may be able to proceed even though you did not appeal.
