I agree. And I don't see how Daisyjane could contact OPM successfully and ask for reconsideration if she did not timely appeal the original notification of results. It doesn't hurt to try I guess, but there is the hope under category 3) that Gary laid out above. I will be curious to hear from anyone who falls into that category and got the you may go to DC email.

I appealed and was not in the highest subgroup for the online testing---still haven't heard a peep. Starting to feel like my chances are slipping....

I strongly urge anyone who thinks they had a shot at getting that email to check your spam folder.

Learned today I am scheduled for the WD/LBMT on Monday, August 31st! SI technically hasn't been set but I'm expecting it will be Tuesday, September 1st. Some time back, I found a discussion on logistical tips for this round - when to arrive, where to stay, etc. I can't find it now. Could someone point me in the right direction? It could be earlier in this thread even, but for some reason I'm not locating it. Thanks.

Ok, I'm on my phone so it's hard to link threads now, but search for WD/LBMT/SI threads. The alternative is search for DC threads from July - September 2013. There's a Courtyard hotel across the street from OPM. Very convienant!

There were cheaper places to stay, and places closer to the site of the WD/LBMT. That said, I was quite satisfied with the hotel and with the logistics of the day of the SI, and would do it the same way again.

Question: Are we all assuming that this interview process is running in parallel with the hiring committee process for a 9/21 start date? Can they do all that at once? If not then what? Any Wags?

Two different agencies, two different processes. The recent interviews for SSA were completed a week ago and are separate from the SIs with OPM.

I stayed at the State Plaza the night prior to the WD/LBMT and had them hold my luggage until after testing. It wasn't a problem at all and it is less than a two block walk to OPM. Then, like Gary and Gaidin, I stayed at the same hotel as the SI the night prior to the SI. I just took a cab to the new hotel after I collected my luggage from the State Plaza after finishing the WD/LBMT testing. ***UPDATE*** The State Plaza cost me $50.00 less a night than the hotel used for SI, but I wanted to be in same hotel as SI for the second night as my SI was early in the morning.

For those of you who may be wanting to save a little money, I stayed at a hotel in Alexandria that was a quick walk to the DC Metro. I had about a 20 minute commute, and I gave myself PLENTY of time to get to my destination. Of course, the way Gary, Gaidin, and MPD handled it is preferable. Just saying that Alexandria is doable.

I also had an early SI and wanted to be close to that site. There is a Marriott directly across the street from the SI which was MUCH cheaper than the Embassy Suites. I stayed there both nights and took a cab back and forth to OPM the first day of testing. I got a great rate at the Marriott through either SW or one of the hotel booking sites. It's worth checking out.

I agree willsdad there are many ways to accomplish your visit to D.C. for OPM testing and interview. It's a personal choice for the individual to choose which one best fits his/her style or needs.

I would strongly suggest NOT relying on metro to get you there on time. Just lately the Metro system has had a number of issues resulting in unexpected delays, shutdowns, etc. resulting from various system failures. If you are going to stay in Alexandria or another area not within walking distance plan on investing in a cab ride and build in 30 minutes or so for the trip (though it will probably be quicker). ~$30 or so is a small price to pay to insure you get there on time.

I did what Gaidin did - Stayed at the SI hotel, took a cab to the testing at OPM (about $6.00) and walked back. It was very hassle-free on days that I didn't want to be sweating those details, but there certainly are less expensive options close enough to make things work.
I agree that if you're going to use public transport (bus or metro) you have to give yourself much more of a time cushion and have a backup plan in case it turns out to be a bad day for public transport.
