You are absolutely right Phoenixrisingalj--I am with you. I too got my golden ticket (yippee) and pun intended. My first application back in well, I think 2007, I lost at step one because I did not put in the date. My copy showed I did. I appealed and lost. I have to just take it that somehow within the system I did not save properly and move on. Three more applications later, having been on the register for a time and having been to both OPM and ODAR interviews, I am ready to get with the next step. I do encourage perseverance for anyone who really wants this job. It is not a sprint and there are a million or so bad spots in the road. Keep your eyes open, take water and keep putting one foot in front of the other. I think Gaidin and others will agree.

I could be wrong but I do not think OPM is finished sending out the emails.

As someone who also got dinged on the WD in 2013, I remember that I had to upload proof of active status at that time. I was surprised that I did not have to do it this time around. Also, I feel lucky to be have so many bar memberships as that helps me to know what day I was admitted to each of my 5 "bars." (The more you apply, the more you have to list.) Further, if you are a member of the DC bar, it lists month/day/year of all of your admissions on the member page. This may be the only upside of moving so many times. I also have addresses for everywhere I have lived since 5th grade since my last state admission wanted that as well as driving records from every state where I had a driver's license. (Which all I could do was provide the letters of laughter from states where I haven't lived in the past 30 years.) So if you think OPM is arcane, don't look too far past the arcane rules for admission to some state bars. (Which was recently part of an NCIS episode that included a guest appearance by the first lady.)

Long time lurker, first time poster. Hi all yall! Thanks for all the great info & humor! Wayne, I hope you're right! I haven't seen anything here about emails received after June 9. Anybody get one after June 9? Wondering how long I should hold my breath, keep fingers crossed, etc. I could be wrong but I do not think OPM is finished sending out the emails.

How can I find out why I did not get an email for the next round? Lucy: On the posting for the opening they had the email address: ALJAPPLICATION@OPM.GOV. May want to try that to see if you can get any information. And the email I received my approval from was: assessments@usahire.opm.gov. In that email, they said to send requests to the aljapplication@opm.gov address, so I would try that first. Hope that helps. Cav

I will post if I get a response. It seems that at this point, with the SJT opening in a week, that if we didn't get the email, we probably didn't move on, but it would be nice to know one way or the other.

There is new info on the link chudley posted above - www.opm.gov/services-for-agencies/administrative-law-judges/#url=Notices:Online Component (OC) Open Period June 20 – July 1, 2016 — Applicants who applied for the ALJ Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA), number ALJ2016-847661, and are moving to the OC of the ALJ examination have been sent notices regarding the open period of June 20 – July 1, 2016 and additional related details. Applicants should take proper steps to allow emails to be received from assessments@usahire.opm.gov. You also should check your spam folders for the OC notice as OPM is not responsible for an applicant’s non-receipt of official notifications due to an outdated or inaccurate email address. If you do not receive: 1) an OC invitation by June 9, 2016 from the noted email address, or 2) a Notice of Results indicating that you did not clear the ALJ examination Preliminary Qualification screening, send an inquiry to aljapplication@opm.gov with the subject line: "ALJ PQ Rating/Online Component Time-Sensitive Link" and OPM will verify the status of your application for the 2016 ALJ examination. Inquiries must be received by 12:00 pm EDT June 15, 2016, due to the upcoming OC open period scheduling process. Inquiries received after the deadline date may not be addressed promptly due to OPM’s focus on the next stage of the examination process. (Posted June 13, 2016)

How long does the ALJ help desk take to provide a response? I emailed several hours ago and I got back an email that can best be characterized as a confirmation of my request. There was no substantive information at all.

I just got the denial email to for lack of saying I failed to clearly establish my 7 years of experience.
In my statement I started off with "Beginning in September of 2008 and for the last 7 years and 7 months, I have engaged in the full time practice of administrative law..." I then went into a ton of detail about all my experience and duties. I guess I should have defined that full time meant 100% of the time while working.
I'll appeal, but from reviewing some previous posts seems unlikely to be successful.

I got the same email. My notification informed me that I did not adequately describe my dates of bar admission. True - I put the years only. But because I was admitted to practice more than 20 years ago I figured the exact date did not matter. Silly me. Good luck and thanks to all!

Did you put a specific date for when you were sworn in by your Bar (otherwise known as the bar date)? In the past, this seems to have been a kicker. A friend of mine got the same Email and she has 15 years experience.

I sent an inquiry to the specified email address this morning asking about how to update my application after the closing date to reflect a recent change in my status. I got an automatically generated response almost immediately.
Within an hour, I had received THE OTHER EMAIL. Didn't make the cut! FYI, that email came from the email address usastaffingoffice@opm.gov.
I'm disappointed, but not surprised. I did not double-check my answers before the opportunity to change had passed, and I had made the stupidest-ever gaffe in cutting and pasting from my pre-prepared responses, essentially giving the exact same answer to both big critical questions. Super duper massive double triple infinity DOH!
In my defense, I was on an extended leave, found out about the posting late along, and fumbled through the application using my phone. LESSON LEARNED! Even after I realized what I'd done, I held out a teeny tiny bit of hope that my nearly 30 years of litigation experience would get me by the 7 year experience requirement. No such luck!
Hopefully there will be another exam announcement before too, too long. Meanwhile, all is not ashes, as the recent change in my status is a good thing and definitely eases the sting of this rejection.
For the curious, the email I received said:
At the time of your application submission, you did not describe your experience sufficiently to clear the preliminary qualification screening and/or your narrative did not provide sufficient detail to demonstrate that you completed the full seven years of qualifying experience. You must have quantified the time associated with any claimed experience in terms of the specific period during which the experience was acquired, including the month and year for the start and end dates (e.g., May 2006 1320
December 2006). In addition, if qualifying experience examples were provided that overlap with non-qualifying experience, you must have provided the percentage of time spent on each type of work.
A separate email explaining your appeal rights will follow this message.

I've been trying to read through the appeals threads to get a sense on a modicum of success on this kind of denial from OPM. This is for my friend that applied and received the same Email. Anyone desire to volunteer an opinion? I won't quote you.
