Just got a rejection e-mail for insufficient licensure information: "You did not provide sufficient licensure information to pass the preliminary qualification screening at the time of your application submission. Complete licensure information includes listing jurisdictions in which you are currently licensed to practice law, the date(s) of admission to the bar in each jurisdiction, and the bar license number in each jurisdiction (for those jurisdictions that confer such numbers)." I provided all required information. My state does not have bar license numbers.

certifiable, sorry about the news, but it seems you knew this was going to happen. I hope you keep the positive attitude your post indicates and look for the next time the register opens.
jbr, bitter and marty - same goes to you guys. Don't be a stanger - check the board every once in a while to see when the ALJ application is opening again.
It's really such an arcane, bureaucratic, and sometimes inane, process when the tiniest hiccups gets you ejected.

You just need to get something from the local licensing authority that says that.

I've been lurking for a while, I just felt weird posting when didn't really have anything substantive to say. Plus, I'm only a GS-12 so thought my odds were low to begin with. I just didn't want anyone thinking that they were the only one to be determined not qualified by OPM.

If you're lucky maybe they won't make you wait for a formal appeal.

I just realized I only included the month and year, not actual day, of my bar admission. Well more than 7 years ago. In the exact same format that got me passed through last go round. Is this what sunk me?

I realized I put the month and year of my bar admission, but not the actual day. Last time around, that was enough to advance me to the SJT, but I guess I had a different reviewer this time.

I believe a GS-12 just got hired to be an ALJ today, so that may not be very material to your odds.

(You may be able to see the question in that which must not be named.) I'm doomed. Here's what the question asked, "If you answered "Yes" (item 2.A or 2.B), use the text box below to list: a) all jurisdictions in which you are currently licensed to practice law; b) the date(s) of admission to the Bar in each jurisdiction in which you are currently licensed to practice law; (c) the Bar license number in each jurisdiction in which you are currently licensed to practice law; and (d) if you maintain a bar status other than active, please explain your status, and specify the jurisdiction in which you have this status. If a State in which you are licensed to practice law does not issue a Bar license number, you must clearly state this fact in the text box below and still provide the remaining requested information."

This thread is disheartening. I knew OPM would use bar admission dates and other technicalities to thin the applicants. I feel for each of you. Pixie.

For the curious, the email I received said: At the time of your application submission, you did not describe your experience sufficiently to clear the preliminary qualification screening and/or your narrative did not provide sufficient detail to demonstrate that you completed the full seven years of qualifying experience. You must have quantified the time associated with any claimed experience in terms of the specific period during which the experience was acquired, including the month and year for the start and end dates (e.g., May 2006 1320
December 2006). In addition, if qualifying experience examples were provided that overlap with non-qualifying experience, you must have provided the percentage of time spent on each type of work. It's notable that, when giving an example of "start and end dates," OPM thought "May 2006 [to] December 2006" was sufficient.

Thanks for that information -- if OPM thinks month/year dates are ok for start and end of various work experiences, then maybe I got rejected because they were confused about my state bar ID. I think I will appeal. I guess it doesn't hurt. Also, any idea when the next application opening will occur?

I have been out of cell/email coverage since Wednesday. Happy days. I got the "pass go" letter from OPM. On to round 2. Thanks for all the historical record here on this site. It was really helpful. I strongly believe I would not have been given the thumbs up if I had not been advised of the OPM pitfalls. Thanks again to everyone.

This thread is disheartening. I knew OPM would use bar admission dates and other technicalities to thin the applicants. I feel for each of you. Pixie. Indeed it is disheartening. I informed a very well qualified friend of mine of the position when it opened and I submitted an application. She informed me today she got a bounce letter as well. It makes me feel sad for folks as well. From my vantage point, even folks who are well qualified for consideration, and who try very hard to describe their experience in terms that will make their qualifications clear, still have to sit on pins and needles to know whether they submitted a passable application. It is a scary thought, but true, that even the best and strongest salmon frequently get swatted out of the water and eaten by bears along the way. Kind of hard to think that job applications should be similarly imperiled.

I am so very sorry for those of you not going on to round 2 at this point. I say "at this point" because you never know what might happen if you appeal, if OPM gives you another chance or if the stars align just right.
In 2014, I was bounced out after the on-line components. Then, I was given another chance last August to go to DC. I received my results on the WD in March, again falling short. I lucked out and the application opened up just a few weeks later.
Here I sit, prepping for the OC again. You just never know when things could turn around, but they will.
"Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in!" (Did I get that right?)

Well. Made it to round two.....again. the white snake song seems apropos. Good luck everyone. Oh. Today I will attend a fair well luncheon for one of my state ALJ colleagues who will be joining the new class. Bittersweet is the best way to describe it. But at least I will now know an "insider" !
