Pixie, shall we nickname you "Spock"? (All the coolest gentlebeings have pointy ears: pixies, Vulcans, and kittycats.) J I feel that I am pretty much 1/2 cat most of the time. There is a close relationship between cats and pixies. Vulcans I'm not sure about.

I know that we can't use leave during the shutdown, but does that also mean we can't use credit hours? It's my understanding we can earn but not use credit hours. I charged all of the leave I used last pp to credit so my accrued credit hours are as low as possible during the furlough. That way I could earn a good chunk of credit during furlough if I want to. You are correct, Christiana, at least that is the ruling as of today. Better use that leave when you get a chance as the opportunities for taking leave will be greatly diminished if you are appointed. That is probably a problem you would like to have. Pixie

Speaking of -- a friend of mine and her sister, in their childhood, "owned" a cat together. Apparently, the ownership arrangement was in the nature of a joint tenancy as to the entirety of the cat's physical being, especially as to petting rights.
Now, both sisters were required by their mother to take piano lessons and practiced in the upper story of their house. My friend hated practicing piano so she bartered her interest in the cat away, bit by bit, in exchange for her sister "practicing" for her (so that their mother could hear downstairs).
By the time the scheme was discovered, my friend had nearly bartered away her entire interest in the cat and could only pet one small black patch of fur near the cat's tail, as her sister owned the remainder of the cat out right.
I'm sure the cat was in complete ownership of its entire self at all times, and the sisters were engaged in a fictional ownership of said feline.
BTW, Vulcans are sympatico with cats. It's only logical.

Is there any chance that lawmakers will use the next three weeks to hammer out the omnibus funding for FY2018, so that at least SSA, OMHA, etc. can be funded, and they can worry about DACA later? Or do you think they are just going to spend the next three weeks arguing about DACA and wait until after DACA is decided to fund the rest of the government?

LBC I hope you are my judge someday--you have such a great sense of humor! And what make you think they'll spend 3 weeks arguing about DACA? i predict 3 weeks of doing what they've been doing, practicing their punts for kicking that and every other can down the road. There's one group that seems to want to make itself non-essential. Did their pay get held?

I think they hammer out an immigration bill with DACA and border security (including the wall) in it, pass it, and see if the President signs it, running on short term CRs in the meantime. Once an immigration law is passed and signed, then they’ll be ready to come to some sort of agreement on appropriations for the balance of FY 2018.

If they do all that, THEN they will qualify for a participation trophy, but no Am Jurs.

The Senate may be able to pass a bill, but I see no reason to believe the House will do anything.

If employees were instructed to show up for four hours on Monday to implement the shutdown, what will their next instruction be? Have they gone home, only to come back tomorrow morning and resume standard operations?

There is no way the House passes the so-called bi-partisan DACA bill currently floating around the Senate. Like it or not - elections have consequences. They'd be smart to just start hammering out a 2-yr budget - to save them this same headache next year!

Any WAGs on how long this shutdown will last? I'm going to go another way, I expect this shutdown to be over by Wednesday at latest, more likely tomorrow, but I predict another shutdown within the next two months. Half way to passing my pundit exam.
