There won't be an exam or a register to agonize over anymore, but y'all are fun to hang out with!

We can start a club “the joint survivors of the last ALJ register and the last ALJ exam”

The end of an era. I have been on one board or another on this topic for about 18 years. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
All of our collective knowledge is down the drain. Will have to figure out a new puzzle. Pixie

Yesterday, when the infamous EO was released, on the "General Board" page, I noted this Forum's age: "11 years, 9 days."

Looks like I’ll never take the exam, but I’m glad for the community over the years as I’m still interested in becoming an ALJ and learning from the wisdom of current ALJs. Thank you to everyone!

We could use this forum to note when an ALJ position is posted on a local agency site. And to pontificate about the new processes. To discuss “new tunes.” Anticipated future hiring. And to keep each other going. I find such comfort lurking on this board.

Will have to figure out a new puzzle. Pixie Who “owns” the board? Meaning, who decides whether it survives? As long as it is a viable forum, it will survive. The members will decide that. We obviously will need to shift our focus and determine what is now important. Shining the light on the OPM process was a huge part of our being. Our expertise had been honed in that area. There will definitely be a void until we can come to grips with the new process, whatever that might be. ALJD and I aren't going anywhere; we will be here to do whatever needs to be done. Pixie

If someone creates a thread titled "EO litigation," or something along those lines, I'd bet the board will remain viable for quite some time.

I propose we start a gofundme page for the applicants to recover the costs incurred in the testing process, as well as the two to three days of lost leave.
Keep it simple and say $1000 per applicant who had to travel more than 90 miles to the testing site and can provide either a copy of their NOR or Invite to this last testing session.

Sure, he said existing ALJ's are protected. Wearing my attorney hat my advice to sitting ALJ's would be "watch your back......" Remember the SG 180 in Lucia--read the brief they filed, where they basically say "we do't care about all this Constitutional stuff, just give us the right to hire and fire the suckers."
So yes, lurking ALJ's--I think you want to get your bretheren and sisterin (cistern?) reading this website because y'all may be in the target reticule of someone on Pennsylvania Avenue (and I don't mean the guy selling half smokes in Lafayette Square).

Good, FH. I had forgotten that bit about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor. What a talent he was.
He had a party at his house many years ago. It was an outside party. James Taylor and Carly Simon came walking into the backyard. Belushi saw them and went running up to them doing his best impression of himself. He picked Carly up and threw her over his shoulder. She was wearing a relatively long dress, but that didn't protect her modesty in Belushi's grip. She was squealing, "Put me down, put me down!" Her dress was over her head and her nether regions were exposed to all the party goers. Guess what she wasn't wearing? True story. Pixie.

Well, never thought my 1000th post would be about this, but that's life for you, huh?
Yes, we need to keep the board. It will change but it has always been changing, so nothing new about that. We need to be here for each other, especially for our members like Airdrop who really need the power of fellowship and community.
Am I shocked? Kinda. I had been having a feeling that something wasn't right, but thought it would be an early release of NORs.
Am I irked? Yeah. As the beau put it, $2400 down the drain for the two times I tested. I am even more irked that I will never get the closure of knowing whether I finally mastered that silly test. But I will live.
I am as far out of an outsider as is possible to be. I have had lots of administrative experience, but NO SSA. I must face the fact that no matter how well qualified I might be vis a vis temperament, general legal experience, etc, I have basically no chance. My current gig gives me a courtesy title of judge, but I don't serve as do those of you who day in, day out, give the people their day in court and render a decision. I would have liked to have pitched in to help, but, again, that's life.
Don't think I have ever had bourbon, but am taking a dear friend out tonight to let her vent on a troubled marriage and I suspect wine will be involved. And I will be grateful that my "problems" as described above, are only that. I have a guy who has put up with me since the first day of law school, we are healthy, and I have all of you as my friends. I finally have a job that offers a pension. For me to kvetch, well, that's certainly "First World problems".
So, one dream dashed, but hey, if you are old enough to have the law license, it isn't the first time. I gotta find the link, but I know I posted once about the donkey in the well. Life throws all sorts of dirt on us all. The secret is to shake it off, step up, and eventually you will be able to stride towards the next goal. So after a couple glasses of merlot or vino verde, it's time for me to take off the blinders and pick a new adventure. Hoping to be able to read of all of your adventures, too.
Anyway, I expect to be seeing most of you here and one day we will all know life is good. I have faith. [But gotta admit, I am tempted to vote for the "Sharped the knife" option in the poll. I am a litigator, after all!]
Blessings to all. Smile!

Pixie, Can we now reveal all the testing, interview, and question secrets since it is all gone away now? Or is that still taboo? I don't care one way or the other, but it may help others to hear what it was like and some of the questions asked.
No preparation helped me, and I even took gift baskets and baby animals.

Here is what gary said in another thread, and I tend to agree with him. "I think the CAs apply until OPM says they don’t, regardless of whether test secrecy matters anymore."

I think it can and will survive - but first folks need to calm down. It seems we can help one another by posting intel on new agency process. Second - I would be shocked if there is not litigation concerning this EO. So that will likely be grist for the grinder here as well.

Geeeesh. I go away for a while and you guys muck everything up. LOL. Actually, the only thing certain about OHA, ODAR, and whatever it is called now is change. You will get through this, whatever this is. Pixie and ALJD will never abandon you. Perhaps, this will be better than ever, but I truly doubt it. I have considered coming back as a Senior Judge, but.... I love the claimants, I love the hearings, I love the ALJ corps. I hate the management and their constant attempts to micromanage professionals that they have hired to do a job. I miss you all and I will drop in occasionally to keep up with the status of the current mess. Prayers for all involved.
