I would love to see on this Board after the next few SSA ALJ hiring rounds stats (polls) on hires.
Insiders v outsiders, if it is open to public.
How do folks fare under excepted service hiring who were competitive as far as making the register or making it to DC for this last testing?
I also know many great insiders who were never able to make it to the DC round (I speculate largely due to a past emphasis on litigation experience, and not because they lacked it. It just occurred prior to working for SSA 15 or 20 years ago). How will they fare?

The Agency doesn't care about litigation experience, just as it doesn't care about the scores from OPM, so they will fare just fine. Pixie

If someone wishes a Board archeology project, there were reports on insider/outsider numbers for several past classes. Those numbers would be useful for comparison with numbers from the next couple of hiring classes to see just how it changes if at all.

This was hinted elsewhere in the thread, but I’m wondering what are people’s thoughts regarding centralized/decentralized hiring?
What I mean, I guess, is that IJ candidates list their availability for several offices when vacancies are announced, but there’s a bifurcated interview process. If, say, you pick LA, the first round interview is in that city, and the second round is in Virginia at EOIR HQ (I may be wrong here, but this is what seemed apparent in the thread about the IJ process).
One does wonder as to if, say, there are vacancies announced in 20 locations for SSA, that those individual locations will do the hiring (with maybe a second round at HQ), or if rank-ordering will still be a thing and all hiring will be from the central office.
I know that no one knows, but am curious to hear opinions. If it’s decentralized, it’ll certainly be tougher for people outside of the hiring area. “Wide GAL” wouldn’t matter so much as current address.

I see there’s apparently a separate devoted thread on this subject now. Excuse me for posting here.

Well, after watching for a couple weeks, I would say the answer to the question, So can we keep the board alive? must be a resounding YES! We have added new members almost everyday. Makes me think the board isn't going anywhere. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

Given the resurgence of “puff” posts on this forum, there appears to be a heightened need for consideration of this thread.
The volume of substantive information naturally ebbs and flows.

Now it will likely come to pass and the Corps will be the poorer.

Thus answering the question posed by the title of the thread. Alive and well....waiving off the life support.....calling for a situational, in fact!

Well, we found Pixie’s retirement gig.... You can live on a Greek island with 55 cats for company
Beautiful Greek island? Check. Accommodation with view of the Aegean Sea? Check. All expenses paid? Check. 55 cats to keep you company? Check. If this sounds like your dream job opportunity, you're not alone. When God's Little People Cat Rescue advertised a position for a feline fanatic to handle the daily running of the cat sanctuary on the natural Greek paradise of Syros, the Internet went wild. The chosen cat carer will be recompensed with a small salary, with bills and housing included. And you get to hang out with cats 24/7. What's not to love? "You'll no doubt thrive best if you are the type of person who appreciates nature and likes tranquility -- and rest comfortably in your own company," reads the advert. www.cnn.com/travel/article/greek-island-cat-job/index.html

Not a feline fanatic. More like a feline lover. I mean what is there not to love about this:

Pixie, by the way, thanks for locking the "Feeling Underappreciated Today" Thread. It had outlived its usefulness. Nice kitty pic above.

The new thread "Question About New EO's Probationary Status/ALJs" and the erudite and well thought out answers are why I believe the response to the the question of this thread is "Definitely!"
Thanks to those on "Questions About New EO's .." for their focus and the high tone of their collegial discussion.

Just wanted to say that this Board has been immeasurably helpful in making sense of recent occurrences. Can't imagine trying to decipher OPM's communications and the recent flurry of activity without the input of others on this Board. Thank you!

I was just remembering back to a time when there were those wondering if this board would serve any purpose going forward after the EO knocked OPM out of the hiring process.
Simpler times.
