Yep.
I have a strong suspicion that the presence of these creatures is responsible for the apparent increase in alligator encounters with humans in Florida.
The gators are being "encouraged" to expand their hunting grounds by the "unfriendly competition" they are receiving from these bad boys.

Did y'all see the picture of the full-size male lion killed by a python, with the python still wrapped around it?
A. LION.
I am so not retiring in Florida.

J Don't worry, there are no lions in Florida . . . yet. Not only am I not retiring to Florida, I'm not setting foot in that horrid state, except for Miami's airport. Is this the picture?

Yes, that's the one. Ugh. Poor kitty!
Florida has panthers, unless the pythons have gotten to them all.

I hope I can find that article. I question first why a python would kill a lion since it’s far too big to eat, and second how a lion would be unable to escape the attack in the first place. If the story is true, that’s a big success for the 🐍

From the mane, he's a young adult male. He might have made a fatal error in prey selection. Snakes can whip their bodies around at lightening speeds.
I have also heard of pythons dropping out of trees onto prey.
And maybe snake could swallow lion and maybe not. I think some can swallow antelope.
Oh, and people. Yup.
Also not retiring in Africa. Or anywhere there's a probability, not just a possibility, that I might be eaten by something.

I spent way too much time trying to find the source of this picture, and failed. I've found similar images with a google search, but when I went to the pages where the photos were linked, I came up empty. On one linked page, the title was "Anaconda v Lion Fight." The problem with that is anacondas live in or near water in South America, not the African plain. I checked other photos of pythons and I don't think the markings match.
As far as their capacity to eat, I still have my doubts that a python could swallow a lion of that size. One page I ran across had this to say:
"While on safari in Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve earlier this month, Dutch tourist Jos Bakker came across a writhing ball of reptilian predation near a swampy culvert beside the road. It turned out to be a 13-foot rock python gorging itself on an adult hyena.
"These massive snakes have been known to dine on other predators from time to time, but it's practically unheard of for one to successfully take out a carnivore as sizable and cunning as a fully grown hyena.
"To pull off the attack without injury, the python would have had to time its ambush perfectly. 'If it did not immediately strike and coil the neck-chest region to immobilize the head, the hyena could've easily crushed the python's skull,' Kowalski explains."
All that being said, pythons are known for killing and eating humans, so I'm not planning to put myself in a spot where I could end up on their menu.

I appreciate your research efforts!
If the picture is real, then I could see how the lion would be overcome. One good coil around the ribs and even a lion can't breathe.

JudgeKnot: I just tried a simpler search—Snake vs. Lion— which seems to work. No article, though. I don't think the snake in the picture could swallow that lion, but the one below could. He was 134' long. Don't know where he was, but wherever it is, I'm not going there. Pixie

I did the same search and had the same results before googling the image itself to find the source. I suspect that snake is also photoshopped in the pic you just shared but it’s harder to search on my phone.

You have clearly never seen that fine piece of cinematography: “Anaconda” starring J.Lo.

Nothin' says yearnin' like anaconda's burnin' ? Surprised PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Anacondas) didn't object to this film. How could a sensitive being like JLo participate in this videographic depiction of animal cruelty?
Oh the agony! Oh the inhumanity!
