I have been holding hearings by phone, from home, for almost four months now, and I am feeling isolated and in the dark. There is no communication from management (or my colleagues for that matter.) I am curious how other judges are feeling. Are you having meetings? Do you IM or email? How, if at all, do you communicate with management and fellow judges? Are you satisfied with the level of communication? I've had two phone conversations with my HOCALJ since March. Maybe one with the LAR. Any case issues that need resolving are done with email or IM. I talk to my SCT/HCSR on a regular basis only because they run my hearings. I'm not a social butterfly, so this is perfectly fine with me. I can see how someone that prefers more communication would be frustrated with the current state of things, though. I wouldn't mind more transparency on how things are going or are expected to go, but it is what it is. I'm going to have a hard time going back to the office. Not having to shower beforehand and being able to hold hearings looking like the Nick Nolte mugshot has been nice.

I am not a judge, but have been with the agency for a long time at this point. I miss my "people" that I am closest with in the office. We IM each other, but it's certainly not business as usual. I don't mind a lack of communication from management. I have always been kept in the dark and just assume our new normal will be in place for quite sometime and at least through the current fiscal year. It is what it is what it is....*sigh*

Communications for the most part have not changed for my office. My HOCALJ never communicated with us before, unless specifically directed to by Region. With telework, most of my communications with staff was via email or IM, so that has not changed. The only new thing we are doing is the line judges set up a text group, so we can ask questions of each other and keep in touch. I hope that continues.
The thing I miss most is the interaction with the HRs, VEs, and reps. I find it awkward to chit chat when you don't know exactly when someone will be connected. When the office reopens, I would love to go back to the office on hearing days and telework all other days.

We are have "wellness calls" scheduled about every other Friday for the whole office. MGT will read updates they have been told to pass along and ask for questions or particular needs. Otherwise contact is similar for me as others have mentioned: IMs, Emails. Different no seeing folks getting coffee in breakroom or speaking to folks on way in or out, but manageable.
More opportunities to use Gaiden's crock pot is a plus.

When we do go back, it's highly unlikely we're going to be congregating in the break room and hanging out in each other's offices.
I would imagine it's still going to be via email and IM at least for a while.

Have you gotten proficient with the Mississippi Roast. Seems to be fairly simple.

I believe Mississippi Roast consists of road kill of the day and two parts moonshine cooked at high heat for 8 hours and garnished with a magnolia, so the price of beef is irrelevant.

Yes, but less people driving = less roadkill.

It would be nice to have a new robe when we start having in-person hearings again. I am going to see if I can get some corporate sponsorships, say, from Nabisco or AT&T. Or Goya. I could put the corporate logo on my robe—for a minimal fee. It’s all about the eyeballs. Every claimant is a consumer. Perhaps they’ll see the Nabisco name or logo, and then get a peckish hankering for Nilla Wafers. This could be the wave of the future for financially-strapped ALJs. I could pick up a few bucks a week this way...and I might even be willing to schedule a few more hearings. If there’s something in it for me, anyway. I wonder if the Statute of Frauds would require a written sponsorship agreement? Which reminds me. I wonder if Ivanka has completed her annual ethics training requirement for this year? Respectfully, Hamster

Sweet, but not too sweet, light, but a good crunch. And now I think I need to head to the kitchen. I guess Nabisco should sponsor you.

Yes, but less people driving = less roadkill. True. And I'm surprised Pixie is letting you get away with "less people."

I always eat before grocery shopping, and thus do not buy cookies, crackers, chips, ice cream, and similar non-nutritious fare.
If it's not in your house, it can't be readily eaten, nor promote impulse munching.

Why is it that eating before grocery shopping is a good idea, but drinking before going to the liquor store isn't?

Respectfully, Hamster hamster , You now have to be investigated because as a federal employee, you posted a product display. Oh wait, you were making a political statement? Oh, wait, First Amendment protection? Oh wait, That was what Ivanka was doing?
I see.
