Gratitude props today to my Dad for instilling in me a love of fishing š£ . From a very young age, I had to bait my own hook, cast by myself, take my fish off the line, use the pliers if the hook was āswallowed,ā measure my own catch to see if it was a keeper, clean my own fish, and do a gentle release for the little ones.
I learned patience, love of the outdoors, the zen of quiet contemplation, self-sufficiency and hazard awareness. I suffered sunburn, bug bites, bee stings, pokes from the hooks, and barely escaped those catfish barbs. I climbed a tree to unwind an wayward cast. Dad was there for advice but we kids were on our own to do the hands-on work ourselves.
When you think you canāt, and doubt yourself, then you do it anyway - thereās not a better feeling in the world.

Thankful thought for Saturday: I appreciate those grocery workers who take my list, shop for the items, and load them in my car at the pickup parking spot.
Iām in a state where COVID is rocketing back up in numbers. Hospital administrators are expressing concern about having sufficient medical staff to care for more patients. We are back to ālimit oneā for toilet paper and paper towel. Forget disinfecting spray or Lysol wipes, those shelves are bare.
Yet, my grocery store folks are willing to shop and do their best to fill the orders and thoughtfully select substitutions when they can.

We, too, are experiencing staff shortages. It's so bad that the city is using inmates to transport cadavers from hospitals to morgues. The inmates were photographed with almost no PPE. Not clear if they "volunteered," either. Very disturbing...

Today I am thankful for my wireless thermostat.
It is rare when I buy a luxury item and even more unlike me to replace something before it is broken or worn out. However, I did exactly that. Despite the fact that my old thermostat worked fine, I upgraded to the Sensi Wi-Fi thermostat. I can turn the heat and air conditioning on and off and adjust the temperature up or down using the app on my phone.
I imagine that this is exactly how princesses must feel. šø

Mine was out recently for 4 days before the provider could come out. I am thankful for the interesting cultural exchange that followed. The first CSR that I spoke with in the Philippines sounded as if she worked in a large chicken raising facility. Turns out she owned about 30 chickens at it ws 5 AM there. She was indeed working from home. The next day it was quieter in the background, but yes the CSR also had chickens and pigs too. We discussed the effects of the Pandemic and flooding due to monsoons there. The world grew smaller for a time.

What happens when the internet goes out? Is there a hotspot for backup?.[/quote The back up plan is that it still works like a regular thermostat on the wall: you push the buttons manually to turn it on and off and to turn the temperature up and down. Now I donāt know about hidden cameras and microphones...never crossed my mind til Pixie brought it upā¦

You know, I don't remember watching Howdy Doody, but my mother told me I did. Guess that means I have advanced age, but never remember I do! I am 34, and sticking to it. Might be in Base 20, but that's okay!
Smile!

Today I am thankful for the people who have pointed out my mistakes in life with kindness - especially those who took the time to explain gently why I was wrong and why another choice was the better solution.
We have all witnessed someone being called on the carpet in a manner which was designed to ridicule, embarrass, or demean. God bless those leaders, managers, supervisors and co-workers who correct errors with sensitivity and discretion.
