Well, they might prefdr to receive faxes when no one is there, but the last three days of the filing period are days when the office is closed. Hope they put lots of paper in the machines, or someone is coming in to check on them...

Well I just tried the original number and its still busy. I've followed everyone else and used iplawyer's second fax number with a follow up email. Thank goodness for this board, I would have been a wreck if I hadn't found this.

Thanks iplawyer for the alternate fax number. I tried the other number over the course of a couple hours, but to no avail. The alternate number got me through on the first try. I hope and trust it is actually a fax number for ODAR HQ. If not, perhaps I will get a job offer from some other fax machine owner in Virginia. It seems rather odd to invite several hundred applicants to file 16+ pages of documents over Memorial Day weekend using 80's technology. Maybe that's why ODAR has such a backlog of appeals. Can you say "e-mail pdf attachments"?

Well for all those who thought that you would send the fax at an odd hour, good luck! I happened to wake up out of a deep slumber at 2:45 and immediately thought about faxing my documents (I think the worry bug has bit me too :-). I have a brand new fax machine. SSA's fax machine at the 8451 number didn't answer!
If you are able to get through to the 8451 number somehow, please let us know.

I happened to wake up out of a deep slumber at 2:45 and immediately thought about faxing my documents (I think the worry bug has bit me too :-). I have a brand new fax machine. When my fax machine dials the number, it says my call cannot be completed as dial, please check the number and try your call again. I thought perhaps I did something wrong with setting up my fax machine so I tried to just call the 8451 fax number using my cell. The fax machine didn't answer! If you are able to get through to the 8451 number somehow, please let us know. Like you, I happened to wake up at an odd hour with a hankering to resend my fax (to the main number this time). "No Response" is the message reported time and time again. I imagine that the folks in that office plan to come in this weekend to check on the fax machine & add paper. That's my hope. Thanks for the post. Your fax machine is probably just fine!

The main fax machine may be broken down because of fax overload. That means they will have to get someone in there to fix it, which could take days. SSA likely received numerous emails about the fax and started giving out the other number.
The agency I use to work for had at least 3 fax machines in the same office, same floor, which were not separated by doors or walls. I am sure it is the same at SSA and that Bob Gehlken is receiving the faxes. I would not worry about resending to the other number.

You are all very welcome!
Please note that any vets (or > 80 scorer) could return the favor by refraining from taking a posting in Richmond (so that my 10-month-old girls could be near their family)!

You know what would be REALLY NEAT? If they could figure out some way to allow people to - I dunno - like save their documents a certain way and then if you could just electronically, like MAIL them from your computer to someone else's? Now I know I'm going all Buck Rogers on you here, but a fella can dream, can't he? This gives new meaning to the thread inquiring @ typing skills. I'd say if you are seeking employment with a firm that figures faxes are cutting edge technology, you'd better not only know how to type, but ya better be acquainted with a mimeograph machine!

I faxed mine Thursday night, late, and it went through fine, so it must be the paper.

I haven't been on the board lately and as I was trying to catch up I saw a couple of things I was wondering about. 1. Is this the last cert before the registry ends in October and is that going to happen? 2. Someone mentioned a Presidential Memorandum that indicated the OPM process would be changing or something like that--how so?

There's not been any announcement about whether the register will be extended, I would think that decision won't be made until close to the deadline. This is the only large cert that's going to happen before then; other agencies may well be filling vacancies.
There was some discussion about the President's action re: OPM, but we really don't know when changes are going into effect or whether there will be significant changes in the ALJ slection process.

Going back to the FAX issue...I was able to fax 10 pages of my document at about 3 30 pm today, then it stopped. I was not able to resend the remaining pages. ...since that time the number has just rung and rung. Mind you I was driving back and forth to a Kinkos. I finally looked at the board and saw the alternate number. Thanks so much!

FYI, I received a call this morning (Sunday) to schedule my interview. I returned my materials late Thursday morning. Apparently, they are working through the weekend to get these scheduled.

Has anyone who faxed to the alternate number gotten a call? Just trying to figure out how much of my holiday weekend I should spend going back and forth to Kinkos

WolfieMom: Were the date ranges still wide open for interviews this morning?

I got the call this Sunday morning and the dates were still pretty wide open. She asked me to pick a date between the 7th & 18th. I got the call as I got to a park to meet a friend with our kids. My kid, right after the phone call, said, "oh, I'm not feeling well" and puked all over the parking lot. Not sure if that's a sign...

In terms of the error message that I received, the issue was my phone line or my phone plan.

Thanks for the update, Wolfiemom. If they are doing FIFO, then hopefully they'll be getting to Friday-filers tomorrow.

I just tried faxing and could not get through to either number. the Transmission/Verification Report says "Busy: Busy/no response." Any suggestions? Has anyone been able to send a fax today?
