I got the email today, is there any significance to it? Does it mean I now have at least one strike? Or was this just a courtesy, in case I was sitting around waiting for an answer?
As I understand it, I won't be interviewed again if I am included on the next cert- I assume I'll be notified that I'm under consideration again? Maybe resend me my GAL another five times?

You can't tell if you have any strikes, or if you were just filler on the list, just from this email. Everyone who didn't get an offer gets it, to get a strike-- you have to have actually been considered for a vacancy (or multiple vacancies-- you can get more than one strike on the same cert. If you are placed on the next cert, you will get notified, just like you were this time, and will have to do some of the same paperwork again, and update the background part. Hopefully they won't do that weird stuff with the GALs again.

Observer: The way I see it, if we don't have a list of the actual openings they considered the candidates for, it is impossible to know if you have a strike, or two, or three. Are there any other ways of knowing which offices REALLY had openings, other than our poll, which seems to have participation of only one-third of the ALJ candidates?

Manhattan, Boston, Albany, Hartford,Ct., Bridgeport,Ct., Voorhees NJ, NewarkNJ, Dover De, RaleighNC, Greenville SC, Savannah Ga, Jacksonville FL, Tampa FL, Orlando FL, Ft. Lauderdale,FL, Miami FL, and one other FL city, I cant recall right now, but all FL cities were on my GAL --all of which were on the GAL sent with my notice of Cert. Our poll doesn't list a single offer in any of these cities. I am still left wondering, why was I on the cert if there were no openings in those cities? Or maybe there were openings???

You still won't know, even with that information, if you were actually considered for any number of those filled slots, and therefore were struck once, twice or three times. I'm not aware of any way to know for sure which had openings that were filled with new hires, unless and until someone reports back from each of the training classes with all that info.

ladyinwaiting, South Jersey (the office is now in Pennsauken) has a retirement in June and there was no one on the transfer list. Dover has several ALJs on the transfer list and most of the other offices are hard to get to.

Thanks, Fletch, and thanks to all who participate on this Board. The support and encouragement given here do a great deal to lessen the waiting, the confusion and the anxiety which the ALJ application process engenders. Thanks to all, and Good Luck to the newest class of ALJ's!

I have some information from a reliable source that some would find interesting.
There were 83 appointments offered and accepted. 37 of those offers went to SSA outsiders. Of those 37, 13 were in other federal agencies (and 1 Navy - not me). There will be 40 in the first class and 43 in the second.
I have no info on how many of the 83 (except for the 1 Navy) are veterans; in fact, that future judge may have been a civilian attorney working for the Dept of the Navy.
While being an insider may be helpful, lots of outsiders ARE competitive. Hope this information helps someone.

From my source, I believe these are the locations of new judges - some offices are getting more than 1 judge. Hope this helps.
