Can we also have transfer list information for the SE (other than Florida)? Is there much hiring in Atlanta/ Covington? The southeast covers an awfully large number of offices. You may wish to narrow your inquiry a little.

Thank you for the information jonmom! And congratulations on the promotion. Does that mean you're buying everyone a round? Cheers!

Forgive my ignorance ya'll, I think I have a touch of the flu (or that is what I am going to claim). So the numbers you have listed are the number of people already waiting to transfer to that location? I assume you have access to this list because you are a current employee? Thanks!

DON'T let the status of a transfer list to a given city influence whether you put that city on your GAL or not. First, the cart has run away from the horse, it's so far ahead. Then, as others have indicated, just because someone's on a transfer list for that city doesn't mean they will take that transfer if offered. And, the circumstances of people on a transfer list change just like everyone else's. GALs last a LONG time. Put every city on your GAL that you think you could live in for five years. Pay particular attention to the cities where OMHA and other agencies that hire from this register have offices, if you would be interested in non-SSA positions.

The transfer list for the Atlanta area offices is long and distinguished as they said in "Top Gun." However, I don't think there is a Johnson on it..

So the numbers you have listed are the number of people already waiting to transfer to that location? I assume you have access to this list because you are a current employee? Thanks! Yes, the numbers are the total of ALJs waiting to transfer to the particular locations. I have access to the list because I am an ALJ member of the Union. The ALJs Union posts updated lists about every 3 months, and the current one was updated on December 6, 2012. We get access to the list by login in as members. However, I agree with observer53 and aljsouth and join them as they recommend to all of the new candidates to list as many offices as you could see yourself living for, let's say, 5 years. So don't be discouraged by this information at all. I'm sharing it because it is good information to have, but it should not stop you from listing some of the most popular locations.

I don't suppose anyone with access to the transfer list can tell us if it has been updated since March 2013? That was the last list anybody had posted.

I think they released a new one in the last few weeks after the ALJ Union filed a grievance over same.

Someone usually posts some info here about the current list if you ask for specifics. It's a lot of work to redact info from the list and post all the cities.

Based on the transfer list updated on 12/6/2012: Fort Lauderdale - 13 Jacksonville, FL - 4 Miami, FL - 7 Orlando, FL - 7 St. Petersburg, FL - 10 Tallahassee, FL 5 Tampa, FL - 12 Dallas Downtown, TX - 3 Dallas North, TX - 2 Ft Worth, TX - 2 Houston Bissonnet, TX - 2 Houston N (Downtown), TX - 2 San Antonio, TX - 3 Thank you very much! One certainly looks easier than the other. So looking at this transfer list, there is basically no hope of an appointment as a new ALJ in most of Florida, correct?

Thank you very much! One certainly looks easier than the other. So looking at this transfer list, there is basically no hope of an appointment as a new ALJ in most of Florida, correct? This is not a current list and was from an old post. This topic has been discussed quite a bit on various threads, so you may want to do a search and see what some of the experienced folks say. But the bottom line is that no one really knows the odds. Just because someone is on the transfer list does not mean they will accept the transfer at the specific time they are offered it--things change with people. So it isn't out of the question. But if a city has 15 on the list waiting, looks like chances are pretty slim for a newbie. You never know though, those folks may have themselves on 2 other lists and may get a different city offered, or they may change their minds entirely. Too many variables! As others more wise than me have said so many times, the transfer list is a "moving target" and not a good basis for limiting your GAL or making future plans.
