Indeed, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Thank you for your reply.

Quick question. I am new to this. I am still in the testing phase, but trying to be optimistic. If you get an offer, is it just for one city, or is there a choice?

Waiting list as of 8/19/13 for:
Fort Lauderdale - 14 Jacksonville, FL - 6 Miami, FL - 7 Orlando, FL - 6 St. Petersburg, FL - 8 Tallahassee, FL 5 Tampa, FL - 11
FYI, there may also be ALJs who are, or have been, in management who aren't on this list, and they trump all non-management ALJs when an ALJ position opens up at an ODAR.

This exercise about transfers is like going to the Arcade and trying to throw a ball at a bottle that is not only moving, but unseen, is just a little rigged.

Mid sized cities in the industrial Midwest (Toledo, Akron, flint, valparasio, etc) and cities in the rural south have a constant churn of new judges transferring out with few established judges looking to transfer in so you can always be reasonably sure hiring will be done there. There's always a chance a new judge will get sent to a large metro area but that has been fairly rare since 2008-2009. Do you think the churning of new judges transferring out of these locations is based mainly on the town and the culture of it? Have you heard anything bad about the office itself?
