I have not received a FOAD letter from the previous set of certs. By "previous" I mean the set of certs before the last set of certs. me either. Well, this is changing today. See separate thread on the topic. So we may be off to the races shortly with new certs. Fingers crossed.

I guess GAL expansion has lost some of its sparkle with The contract change . whatever luster it had for me is gone

Yes - that is a possibly interesting side effect of the increase in time to transfer for new hires. If SSA just wanted to get more possible bodies in these "less desirable" locations, one would have thought a GAL expansion was the way to go, but it clearly is not happy with the rotating in-and-out factor so pushed for this change and now it might have more comfort in knowing that people who have these locations on their GAL will actually be there for at least 15 months. This change might very well alter some people's interest in expanding their GAL should the possibility be offered.

I just can't see them doing a GAL expansion request until the new October- December testers get added into the register. Otherwise they have to got through this process twice, and that's NOT OPM's M.O.

I would just like to say that I will be on vacation next week, and therefore predict that cert e-mails will go out on Monday, with paperwork due by the end of the week.

what paperwork is due with certs? If it's your first time on a cert, you are required to return the following forms: 1. ALJ Candidate Personal History Form 2. Background Questionnaire Consent and Release Form 3. Summary of Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act 4. Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) 5. Geographic Availability List (GAL) If this is not your first rodeo, you may not have to return all of these forms.

And just to be clear, they will email all of this to you in the email that tells you that you are on a certificate for each of the cities they list in the email. There are strict deadlines and typically, a couple of days to a few days for the GAL list, and a little longer for the rest if I recall ... a week? But not long.

I also want to remind people that all these documents, phone calls, travel arrangements, etc, will be made at different times for different people. They are not all done at once. If someone posts and says they got a phone call or their references were checked and that hasn't happened for you yet PLEASE do not be worried. It all gets done for everyone by the finish line but not in the same order for every person.

Thank you guys for all of the info regarding cert docs and the timelines. I'm a newbie and an outsider that took the exam with the August/September group. I've largely put it out of mind but this reminds me not to get too lazy and fail to check the email and spam filter for 3-4 days.
Now a question and bit of confession: I don't have great credit. For those that know, has anyone with otherwise great credentials been denied on this basis?
Thanks again and good luck to everyone

What kind of bureaucracy is this anyway?

stormy -- ask Bob. But my understanding is that if you are paying regularly now and they want you, it should not be a problem

I have seen references to "Bob" scattered throughout this board, I am assuming it refers to someone at OPM or something, but I would like to know for sure. Who (or what) is Bob?

Bob works in HR at SSA and he is one of the wonderful people who call to make offers. He is also a wizard at answering questions related to HR issues.

For those that know, has anyone with otherwise great credentials been denied on this basis? Thanks again and good luck to everyone They do use credit as a factor. How much this is weighed is going to be fact specific and no one will be able to tell you a cut off score or details. They pull credit reports when they schedule interviews and send out the cert paperwork. Like Liz said all of this happens at different times and not all at once so some gets emails sent days different than others. Be patient when this starts as calling Bob will slow everything down.
