The good news is that the consensus is that there will be Certs. Get ready! Not Todayâ„¢

I hope you will have internet access. I also highly recommend you get your references squared away ASAP. You don't want to be trying to do that from the beach.
The other paperwork took me about 2 hours total. If you have been with the same employer for a long time it should be quicker for you.

I have been at same employer for 22.5 years. Any other advice? If I get the email on the 30th, I'll have all night. References all in place. Address and phone numbers all set. Scheduled interview is my big concern. I will be 4500 miles from DC.

i think they will make it work. only a guess. you;d probably miss class of January 2015 if you are in running for it but you will get your interview at some point. make sure you can check your email while gone and leave a cell phone contact or some other way for SSA to reach you.

Scheduled interview is my big concern. I will be 4500 miles from DC. I had a single employer and supervisor for 23 years. I found the Personal History form relatively easy, EXCEPT for the references. Getting my supervisor on board was easy. Getting the 9 references on board in the one week they gave me was more challenging. If you follow the advice you've received and line up supervisors and references ahead of time, if you have Internet access AND access to a printer and some way to scan documents, you'll be fine on the paperwork front. As to the interview, you need to be prepared for the worst case but realize it may not happen. At this point we are all just guessing on when they'll interview people. Talk to whoever calls you. They may have dates that are late enough not to impinge on your vacation. If so, great! Or they may have a date that will allow you to complete the vacation but require immediate travel afterward to FC. Or they may only have dates while you are on vacation. The last is the worst case, and you should decide ahead of time whether you are willing to make the FC trip in the middle of your vacation or not. If not, historically that has meant you will not be considered for the first class but may, if your cities are up, get a shot at the next class. I hope they'll have one or more dates that will allow you to interview without interference with your vacation. However, it is prudent to figure out what your answer will be if they don't have a date like that for you. Good luck!

To Mac it should work out for you. Especially if you have a higher score. Could you not email OPM about Certs. You got a NOR . You have a reasonable expectation that Certs will be emailed between now and December 15th You know that you will be out of area for.interview between December 1-15. And you know time is critical to respond to communication. Especially if you will have limited email access i would at minimum advise OPM of the situation (if certs are not issued by close of business Monday). Otherwise enjoy a lovely vacation Once an ALJ who knows when you will be able to be off f or 15 days. I see it as great planning.

At this point you aren't dealing with OPM anymore you are dealing with ODAR. They won't tell you anything except check your email. The options Gary outlined above are the options unless ODAR is willing to do video interviews. Something I haven't heard anything about with ODAR. If you can't make it back for the interview I would make sure you notify ODAR asap AFTER the certs and travel come out. One last thing if your cities are highly popular with few openings this question is much harder than if you have MT. Pleasant, Tupelo, and Middlesboro on your list and intend to keep them.

and i am thinking odar wants to hire 300 judges this year. if mac can't get an interview this time around, i see no reason why odar would not interview mac when they do the next batch of interviews. only a guess.

true, she should make sure she get an interview the next time around. if not, i hate to say it, it may be worth it to cut vacation short if needed for an interview, only you, mac, can make that call.
but for right now, continue as you are, to line up all the ducks needed if you make cert, so you can get all that info in timely, and have a wonderful vacation!!!

Thank you all for the wonderful advice. I have all my info ready to go. Internet access is not a problem. It is the interview that has me waking up at night asking why? Honestly, if the opportunity presents itself and they cannot interview me on the 17th or after I'll be flying home early at a very expensive price. Waited too long for this opportunity. By the way....what is wrong with MT. Pleasant?

I have heard fantastic things about Mt. P. It is however, cold, rural, and its isolated enough that its hard to travel home to visit family.
