I got a pm today that contained the following:
"From today's all managers' call:
1) The deputy commissioner said that they had received the new certs (she actually said "list of names" but I believe that is what she meant).
2)The plan to hire 250 ALJs this year was re-stated. The deputy commissioner also indicated that they are going to try and make up the for the 50 they did not hire last year. So the aspirational goal appears to be 300 ALJ's this year."
Thank you anonymous stranger!

Based upon Tiger's post I actually surmise we may see two back to back hires. 1 keeping the January 25 start date and adding a February 21 start date.

For our friends who just got their NOR's you should be lining up your references. Hopefully you will all be getting good news soon. Once the ball gets rolling there is a short return time to get the paperwork in so getting everything lined up now will be a plus.

Thank you anonymous stranger! Thanks AS. The obstacles that turned last year's Big Hire into a Big Fizzle have been removed. About April SSA will no longer have to deal with most of its new ALJs transferring after a few months in their initial duty stations. Now as long as they've got the money, SSA can dictate how many candidates OPM tests. And obviously the Government now has systems in place to prevent future data breaches. So there's nothing to prevent SSA from hiring 300 new ALJs by the end of FY 2016. In the words of a highly esteemed Board member, it's a great time to be on the register.

Sounds like it really is a good year to be on the register, and I am happy I am on it. I just received NOR, so I am hoping they put my name on the register before the cert names were generated for SSA for the upcoming cert.

The references are the most important. They will be asking about you current and prior employment from either the last 10 or 15 years. Good luck!

Sounds like it really is a good year to be on the register, and I am happy I am on it. I received NOR on Nov 9, so I am hoping they put my name on the register before the cert names were generated for SSA for the upcoming cert. Any guess as to whether the "list" contains names of people from the Aug/early Sept group that received NORs? Also, someone made the great suggestion of getting your paperwork ready. I assume that includes references, but is there something else or do we just have to wait for a packet to complete? I'm still guessing this Friday for certs. Thanks. My guess is that you and your comrades were on the register in time to be on any certs for which your scores and GALs qualify you.

I echo getting your references in order. There is a thread from November of last year that has every contingency about references discussed and gives great advice on how to select and prep references.

That's right, Mr. G. I had forgotten about that really excellent post on how to do the references. I followed the advice and it worked out great. Highly recommend!
I just tried to find it but failed. It seems to me that someone had reposted it in November 2014 from an earlier round.
This is probably a good time to remind everyone who is about to get into the cert/interview/ references frenzy of the following: Not everyone will have the same thing happen at the same time. Some of you may get emails while others may get phone calls. Some people will have their references checked first, others will be done later. Ditto for making interview appointments and travel arrangements. Don't freak out if other people are posting that their travel is done while yours isn't. In the end, every part of every person's process will be finished around the same time, just not in the same order.
And if you don't make a cert this time, the odds are good that you will sometime in 2016. It's a great time to be on the register.

I, too, looked for the post or thread on references to which Gaidin referred and couldn't locate. Would anyone out there be kind enough to remind us newbies to register the specifics on what type and number of references, and other info, we'll be expected to provide quickly if we make a cert? Thanks -

In the following post there's a link to a link to a copy of the 2011 Personal History Form. This is not the current form, but may be useful for figuring out what kind of information you'll need. If I may use your proprietary term, gary, I'd like to state that cert e-mails / interview scheduling phone calls will happen today TM. This WAG permits my glass half-full and glass half-empty sides to meld. My pessimistic side says that since I will be in court all day away from my e-mail and my phone, of course today would be the day the powers that be would reach out. My optimistic side says that since today is our friend hapi2balj's birthday, as he blows out his 29 candles, his (and by extension all of our) birthday wishes will come true!

My original completely uninformed winging it guess for cert release was tomorrow (Friday), but there is also the possibility of Monday since someone mentioned they like to cert release on Mon. However, with Turkey day coming next week, I can see them wanting to release tomorrow to give more time for noticees to respond. We can only hope...

Sorry my birthday didn't provide the gift of cert emails for any of us! Maybe tomorrow - I've already told my wife if SSA wants to interview me on Thanksgiving Day we'll grab our turkey & cranberry sauce and eat in the car! :-)
