A co-worker in my shop was on a previous cert but not hired. Think the interview sank them (but of course, has no way of knowing). So they reapplied, upped their score by a couple, gets on this cert, and learns that they are going to be judged on their old interview. Probably not the MOST unfair wrinkle in this process, but right up there.

Marcia, you said: "Maybe I should change my name: Ima Threestriker...if the high heel fits...wear it!!!!" I think that it's great that you were willing to share this information. This whole thing is so mysterious.

So - these people who have been three-striked - does this all go away if the current register is deleted in October or whenever?

For all of those wondering if you are a 3-striker... Ditto to Counsel's comments regarding the information provided by PF...enlightening information in the SSA/ODAR world of smoke and mirrors!!!! Maybe I should change my name: Ima Threestriker...if the high heel fits...wear it!!!! My favorite contemporary 20th century composer, Samuel Barber, wrote a lovely piece...Adagio for Strings Op. 11...For you movie buffs, Oliver Stone selected the adagio in one of the final scenes in Platoon...haunting application for a beautiful musical composition...the "good" guy runs out of the jungle with the VC on is tail...and the "bad" guy left him to be killed...a bit of movie trivia...Willem DaFoe (the Good Guy) was outfitted in fake blood packets that were supposed to go off when the character was "shot" in the back...but they didn't...but they didn't re-shoot the scene because it was so perfect othewise... For those of you feeling like the "good" guy who just took the bullet...It is only a movie!!! Count your blessings, chill out, and embrace peace...a peace that surpasses understanding!!! Stayin' cool and coated in sunscreen, MarciaBrady 1977 Good stuff, MB and so dear to my heart. May you stay in that place and some day don the Robe....

To those of you who are NOT 3-strikers...and anyone else who is listening...
Everyone with a score is on the register.
SSA asks for a certificate which is pulled off the register.
A certificate has a very specific number of people, correct?
I'm a 3-striker and I continue to make the certificates.
So, I'm just "occupying" a space on the certificate.
Too bad...at least one person on the register is not on the certificate because I am occupying a slot on the certificate.
Ugh.

Does anyone know how long after an offer is extended, if one is extended, that one has to accept or decline? Is it the case that they will expect a person to accept an offer without having the opportunity to meet anyone in the offered office or see the office? From reading this board, it is clear that office environments vary widely. Can anyone give me the dirt on Cleveland, Chicago, or Milwaukee? I don't mean to get ahead of myself, but I’d just like to be prepared if an offer comes my way.

You have a few days, maybe up to a week to decide on the offer. You will not, however, be invited to meet or talk to people in the office, in fact it is officially forbidden (course, it does happen). Milwaukee has had a lot of turn over. The Chicago offices vary. I agree, it is very strange to accept an offer to work with people you have never met, but that is how it works.

Thank you for the response. Strange is an apt description of this entire process.

Can you tell us how long it was between accepting the job offer and getting sworn in? Thank you

The amount of time varies by year and by group. I accepted the job three and a half weeks prior to my start date. I was sworn in the first day. Others have had more than two months between accepting the job and starting.

After 15 years as a state ALJ, I appealed my final numerical rating of 69.02 from the Notice of Results issued on May 12, 2010. However, I still certified and interviewed this week with SSA. Am I missing something and should I withdraw my appeal???
