I have heard of “tentative offers” being made. My understanding of the process is as follows: tentative offer ... if accepted then background checks etc ... if all that clears then a formal offer.
I was told the same as fedguy re timing. New AJs in place by late July or early August and the AJ conference in late August.

Charlotte is the only one for which I have first hand knowledge.

Well if they’re giving tenative offers out I imagine the other offices will follow soon. My experience with federal hiring is that they’re all working with a similar timeline from HQ. Sounds like next week could might be the week!

For any of you coming from prior federal service: did your interviewers ask you for your SF-50?

For any of you coming from prior federal service: did your interviewers ask you for your SF-50? Double check whichever announcement you were responding to--most mention that and tell you when you have to present it.

It’s been a little over 3 weeks since my interview and nada. Any reports of other movement other than the Charlotte?

So I’ve heard that at least some offices hinted that the hiring process is now at the HQ-level. Does that mean locally they’ve made hiring recommendations to HQ? My understanding of federal hiring is that hiring selections are made locally and then “recommended” to HQ where the final call happens. Anyone know different?

Anyone know how long the suitability/background check process generally takes (so the time to go from tentative offer to formal offer? It depends on the type of background check. If the agency is doing a full-blown public trust or TS/SCI it could be several months. The total length of time needed depends on the details of your personal situation in general, and the amount of your foreign travel. My very first background investigation took approximately 14 months. However, I was investigated for a TS/SCI clearance and I had done an extensive amount of international travel requiring checks in about 25 countries. I got the job and the TS/SCI clearance but it took a very long time. If it is a preliminary check (references, fingerprints, criminal check, credit check, IRS check) it usually takes 2-4 weeks. The agency presumably would then do the full background investigation after you EOD. That means your offer/job would be conditional on a successful background investigation after you EOD.

EEOC AJ only requires public trust (per the posting). The various paperwork HR asked for was a very basic EEOC form and the Declaration for Federal Employment. And what is EOD (I’m new to all this)?

EOD=enter on duty. Which office extended you an offer?

EOD - Entry On Duty. Your EOD date will determine your service computation date for purposes of leave and retirement. TS/SCI - Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information.

The field's selection must go to HQ for final approval.

I’ve thrown in the towel. I asked for a status update and got a response similar to what I posted above: that everything is with HQ now and they’ll finish the application process. I read that to mean I’m out of the running.
GL to the rest of you!

Congratulations, minkheel and others who are set to become new EEOC judges. I'm hanging out with some EEOC judges this week. They're an admirable corps who do a good job.
