Got my FOAD letter yesterday for the Memphis GS13 vacancy earlier this year. At least they didn't leave me hanging for years like some other Agencies

Received this from a board member who is a bit shy:
"Pixie, please let the Board know that an Attorney Adviser position at the EEOC was posted for San Antonio TX. This is referred to as an Administrative Judge or AJ. Very similar to an ALJ. Hears cases brought by federal employees claiming employment discrimination. I'd prefer not to be identified. Many thanks!"

Some of those are internal to the agency.

Some of those are internal to the agency. I wonder how hard it is for outsiders to get one of those

Pixie I was thinking of the external posting I do know of someone that was offered one of these positions who was an outsider. But she had experience in the area of law on the agency side. The fact that it is open to the public (as opposed to internal like the others) suggests they don’t prefer an insider.

I find it curious that AJs at EEOC have such a low grade level...they should be on par with ALJs, IMO, given the importance of their office and work.

Who knew that L between the A and the J was worth so much more per year The EEOC Administrative Judge is in a different job classification (905) from the ALJ. The reason the job is a GS-13 is because the EEOC is a small agency and the top graded Regional Attorney in a Regional Office is a GS-15, which leaves GS-14 for supervisory AJs and trial attorneys and GS-13 for non-supervisory AJs and trial attorneys. Nonetheless, the AJ is qualifying experience to become an ALJ and several EEOC AJs have became SSA ALJs.

Any chance of getting an interview with no discrimination law/employment law experience but having been a state hearing officer for several years?

Figured i’d revive this thread as there was a recent posting that closed on 7/1/22.
I threw my hat into the ring was referred and have an interview invite.
Best of luck to everyone that applied.

Good luck to you. I'd also posted it on the Plan B thread--I don't know if there were any responses. Response to an earlier position was that the job was good, cases interesting, workload doable.
