Below are the "milepost" dates for significant points in this process. You can click on the date to take you to a relevant thread. The current register was created on March 13, 2014 based on the examination that opened March 2013. The register currently is closed to new applicants. One only may apply to be added to the OPM register during an open period, with the exception of those eligible for a 10-pt veteran's preference who are permitted to apply at any time. The previous register was created in 2008 based on the 2007 examination cycle. The previous register was refreshed in 2008 and 2009. No further hires are being made from the 2008 register; references to it are for historical purposes only. PLEASE NOTE, the time periods involved in the creation of the new register have deviated significantly from the prior one. Caveat emptor. *The earliest post on this board dates to September 3, 2007, therefore there are no thread links for earlier dates. You may be able to find information on these events by searching The Other Board. One thread from last year had a post which stated that April 14, 2009 was the first day of interviews.
Based on past years it looks like offers will be made by the end of July. Do others believe this will be the case?

Maxlaw...this is awesome info! Thank you for the sweat equity in tracking all of this! It'll be a relatively tight timeline between "First offers made" and the August SSA training in Falls Church. Nonetheless, should I be fortunate enough to make that cut, I'll do whatever it takes to make it happen!

I was more focused on the repetitive aspects of the process, and those extra certs were created ad hoc. Still, I'm happy to include them, and have put it on the "to do list". As an aside, the pattern so far (based on the few data points we have) has been for the exam to re-open around nine months after NORs are released. If the register doesn't expire, I'd be looking around Feb 2011 as a prime time for it to reopen. |

Based on ALJD's comment in this post it does sound like a quick window for the selectees, although I think that is the date to report to the office prior to class training. Agencies will try to start new employees on the first day of a pay period, which 30 Aug is. My personal guess is for a notification at the end of July, but I have no inside information. |

No reason to get ahead of ourselves, but using the chart above, in 07 it took nearly 3 months from cert notice to job offer. In 08 it took just under 2.5 mos. Cert notices went out 5/24. 2 months - faster than in either 07 or 08 -would take us to the last week of July for offers. Even tho SSA-ODAR seems committed to working faster than OPM, remember that this is the organization that thought it would be hunky dory for us all to be faxing our docs to a single number, and that is calling folk to arange interviews less than a week off...  I think we had all better plan on just doing our best in the interview, and then enjoy our summers as best we can, while thinking about this as little as possible.  |

ML, I see you're still spending time perfecting your chart. It's probably the best summary chart on the ALJ processing timeline, so I'm sticking it up for now until this hiring cycle is done. Maxlaw, I would like to echo the kudos. This will be quite helpful to future applicants.
I can think of a couple of additional data points that future readers might be especially interested in (based on the level of relative frenzy on the board). One would be interview date ranges. Also, the number of SSA hires may be relevant to future numbers oriented speculators. In this type of process, any additional data points can provide some comfort. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else that might be critical.

For now though, I'm leaning towards just letting people click on the date linked in the chart to get that information - the link takes you to a relevant thread, and the ranges are at or near the top of each thread. Re: the hiring numbers - I think that's a good idea, I'll plan on adding it. Not today though, unless someone wants to just pm/post the info for me |

What actually happened, according to info I read on the vacancy announcement, is that it stayed open until midnight the day the 900th was received....which was 11/10/09. (Yes, it happened that fast!). That's the closure date listed on my USAJOBS account, and I presume everyone else's. |

No, it's 900, like the chart at the top says. If you saw an 1100 number somewhere here on the board, it may have been an estimate to reflect the total number that came in before midnight 11/10/09.
